“BPSR is proud to show off Nigeria’s first ever made in Nigeria vehicle – INNOSON – IVM ‘JEEP (bpsr – Nigeria.blog spot.cs.uk). It was made in Anambra State.” This is the opening paragrapgh on BPSR, a popular Nigeria blogger.
Nigeria received the news with excitement and some with disbelief. In some of the trend on twitter, some belief the car was not made in Nigeria but only coupled in Nigeria. They were of the opinion that Nigerians cannot make engine so the white have a hand in this so claimed made Nigeria vehicle.
Another twist to this story is the aspect of ethnicity. Some fans from the Southern claimed this Jeep is not made in Nigeria but in Biafrra. “All hail Biafrra, first to manufacture car in Africa. “This is one of the posts by an excited Biafrran who was of the opinion that the success story should be attributed to a geographical location.
If we are to go by this news, INNOSON IVM JEEP is timely the first of its kind in Africa. But you would recollect the IZUOGU power generating machine that never saw the light of the day. Dr. EZEKIEL IZUOGU nearly produced the eight wonder of the world, as he coupled a car with ninety percent of its parts sourced locally. For insurance, the horn was a doorbell and would have just cost $2000 to own one. But on March 11, 2006, Dr. IZUOGU’s dream was jeopardized as his factory was located and various machines were carted away by unknown men.
With the invention of IVN Jeep, Nigeria should embrace the invention with a high disregard for ethnic rivalry, made in Nigeria or coupled in Nigeria, the bottom line is, a Nigerian has a hand in it.
